LYRICS to GUESS WHAT HAPPENED
by Don Caron
Guess what happened while impeachment
was the only issue in the news.
Seven hundred thousand people
booted offa food stamps got the blues.
They re-upped the Patriot Act
so government’s oggling every move.
Trump is not our biggest problem.
If he is deposed will things improve?
If he is such a disaster
why’d they give him money for a wall?
Why’d they vote for his big tax break
always giving in without a squall?
Taking money from the poor to
hand to the wealthiest of us all.
Mass approval of his judges,
ultimately we will take the fall.
Thousands living poor and homeless
yet Ukraine is now the mortal sin.
Dem elites concoct their version of
make America Great Again.
Pushing Biden on the voters
pushing us back to where we can’t win.
Joe says nothing needs to change now,
punctuating with a dizzy grin.
Both the parties turned their backs on
working people, poor and middle class.
NAFTA and Iraq disasters,
bailing out the banks – gave them a pass.
Government in bed with Wall Street
means they are not the ones getting screwed.
All of that remains in place
regardless of proceedings they conclude.
When republicans got cornered
Fake News was the thing they thunk.
When the democrats see trouble
they toss around the term “debunked."
Conspiracy is now applied to
any opposing point of view.
And you are a Russian agent
if you disagree with Hillary too.
Democrats are now conversing
On a subject of far greater weight.
Different theories for our future:
negotiation vs. coordinate.
opposite Neo-Liberal range.
Revolution in the system
vs. “nothing really needs to change."
Some think Trump’s an aberration
others say he’s just a symptom of
Policies long in formation
failures that we failed to get out of.
Now’s the time to make the changes
If we don’t do it now, never will.
Biz as usual just won’t cut it
Time to act, this is not a drill.
ABOUT THE SOURCE MATERIAL – Deck The Halls
"Deck the Halls" (originally titled "Deck the Hall"), is a traditional Christmas, yuletide, and New Year carol. The melody is Welsh, dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, "Nos Galan." The English-language lyrics were written by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant. They first appeared in 1862, in volume 2 of Welsh Melodies, a set of four volumes authored by John Thomas, including Welsh words by John Jones (Talhaiarn) and English words by Oliphant. The repeated "fa la la" goes back to the earlier Welsh and may originate from medieval ballads.
Originally, carols were dances and not songs. The accompanying tune would have been used as a setting for any verses of appropriate meter. Singers would compete with each other, verse for verse—known as canu penillion dull y De ("singing verses in the southern style"). Consequently, tunes originally used to accompany carols became separated from the original dances, but were still referred to as "carols".
