Program Notes:
The United States Coast Guard Band presents “Angels in the Architecture.” This free livestream concert featuring saxophone soloist MUCS Joshua Thomas and the full United States Coast Guard Band begins with William Grant Still’s fanfare work “Victory Tide,” followed by American
contemporary composer Sally Lamb McCune’s work entitled “High Water Rising.” Senior Chief Musician Josh Thomas is the featured saxophone soloist as the Band premiers Robert W. Smith’s new work “Three Conversations with Matisse.” “Prelude in the Dorian Mode” by Antonio de Cabezon (arranged by Percy Grainger) precedes American composer Frank Ticheli’s exploration of the divine versus the evil in “Angels in the Architecture,” and John Philip Sousa’s humorous “People Who Live In Glass Houses” suite concludes the program.
