2 min read
Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m. EDT, Simulcast on our YouTube channel through https://livestream.com/CGA/mar-21-2021, the United States Coast Guard Band presents “European Tour.” Director, Commander Adam Williamson leads music by Paul Dukas, Gordon Jacob, W.A. Mozart, and Claude Debussy. Through the Virtual Concert Hall, the Coast Guard Band remains committed to representing the men and women of our service and highlighting the talents of our excellent musicians.
This afternoon of chamber music opens with “Fanfare pour précéder La Péri” by Paul Dukas. From the British Isles, we hear Elizabeth Aitken’s “Talisker,” and the second movement from Gordon Jacob’s “Two Pieces for Two Oboes and English Horn.” The lovely traditional Irish tune “Danny Boy” is performed by the harp and soprano duo. From the horn quartet, we hear an arrangement of Debussy’s “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” followed by Mark Adam Watkins’s aptly named work, “Fire in the Hole.” Concluding the day’s broadcast is Mozart’s “Serenade in C,” a timeless classic for wind octet. We look forward to seeing you at the Virtual Concert Hall for this “European Tour.”
