In these trying times, we all need to remember to care for our own mental health. May is mental health awareness month, but self-care and responding to how we feel is a year round task. Veterans and first responders, as a result of all they have dealt or are dealing with every day, sometimes just need a little help from those who know what they are going through.
Hidden Battles (https://hiddenbattlesfoundation.org/) is just such an informal, home-grown, non-profit support organization. Geared toward Veterans and First Responders, Hidden Battles offers peer-to-peer counselling, informal meetings and events to help those who have some of the most stressful lives, decompress and connect with others who have gone through similar circumstances. No one needs to battle alone.

While the VA has a whole division for mental health support for veterans (links below), not every veteran or first responder needs or wants a formal program. It’s about finding the best fit for you. Some people need more formal, medical, professional assistance. For those types of resources, you can start here: https://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/index.asp
