Braze Mobility has developed the world’s first blind spot sensor system that can be added to any wheelchair, transforming it into a "smart" wheelchair that automatically detects obstacles and provides alerts to the user through intuitive lights, sounds, and vibrations. There are over 1M powered mobility device users in the U.S. – 20% of them experience at least one major collision within a year and 11% are hospitalized. Powered wheelchair accidents often result in the exclusion of individuals altogether from the use of these devices, even when no other alternative for independent mobility exists. This is a violation of human rights. By offering increased spatial awareness, Braze blind spot sensors help prevent accidents and increase user independence and confidence while navigating. This technology has helped restore and/or offer new opportunities for independent mobility for several Veterans across the U.S.
